This course provides an overview of reservoir engineering principles, from understanding reservoir rock and fluid properties to examining fluid flow mechanics, well performance, and reservoir management strategies.

1. Characterize reservoir rock and fluid properties using core, log, and laboratory data to quantify storage and flow capacity.
Learning Targets:
1. Calculate porosity, absolute permeability, and formation factor from core analysis and well logs using Archie’s law and saturation models (e.g., Timur–Coates).
2. Interpret capillary pressure and relative permeability datasets to derive wettability indicators and endpoint saturations (Swirr, Sor).
3. Derive net pay, bulk volume water, and hydrocarbon pore volume using defensible log cutoffs and uncertainty bounds.
4. Validate petrophysical interpretations by cross-checking core, log, and SCAL results with quantitative QA/QC criteria.
Modules
2. Determine reservoir fluid phase behavior and PVT properties and prepare simulation-ready PVT datasets.
Learning Targets:
1. Classify reservoir fluids (black oil, volatile oil, gas condensate, dry/wet gas) from PVT reports and laboratory experiments.
2. Compute Bo, Bg, Rs/Rv, compressibility, and viscosities from lab data and correlations; tune EOS (Peng–Robinson/SRK) to match key PVT points.
3. Construct phase envelopes and identify bubble and dew points; quantify retrograde condensation risks for gas-condensate systems.
4. Generate black-oil or compositional PVT tables and verify consistency for reservoir simulators.
